Restore a domain

If a domain was cancelled or not renewed and has therefore been deleted, it is not immediately lost for good. Every registry grants a restore period (redemption phase) after deletion. Within this period you can reactivate your domain yourself in the customer portal (fee applies).

Where do I find this feature?

Log in to the customer portal and open Previous Domains in the Domain menu. If you have recently deleted domains, you will also find a tile on the start page.

The page lists your former domains with their deletion date. Domains that can still be restored show the deadline and a button with the price. For all others, the page explains why no restore is possible (for example transferred to another provider or permanently deleted).

How long is a restore possible?

It depends on the extension: 40 days from deletion for .ch and .li, around 30 days for most other extensions. Once the period has expired, the registry releases the domain and anyone can register it. So do not wait until the last day.

What does it cost?

The price is shown right on the button and includes the restore plus one year of renewal. It is considerably higher than the normal annual fee because registries charge substantial fees for restores from the redemption phase.

How it works

1. Click Restore next to the domain and confirm.
2. An invoice due the same day is created immediately. It can only be paid online (card payment) so the restore can safely happen within the deadline. A bank transfer would be too slow.
3. After payment, the domain is restored fully automatically. You receive a confirmation by e-mail and the domain reappears among your active domains.

Good to know

• Custom DNS records that existed before deletion may need to be set up again. The DNS zone is recreated with default records if it no longer existed.
• If the invoice is not paid, it lapses automatically. As long as the period is running, you can order the restore again at any time.
• If a domain cannot be restored (period expired, domain transferred), the page shows this transparently. Our support team is happy to help with any questions.
