Emails / contact form via external provider like Wix, Jimdo…

Our domains are protected by SPF protection against abuse of the email address by third-party providers. The sending by a third-party provider must first be enabled. This ensures that 3rd parties can not abuse your email address as a sender address. Therefore, contact forms from third-party providers such as Wix, Jimdo, etc. can not be sent with your email address. In order for the email dispatch to work via a third-party provider, the SPF entry in the DNS settings must be adjusted.  There are 2. possible variants for this.

  1. Variant (recommended): add the SPF entry
    1. Contact your provider and ask for the SPF entries that can be added
    2. Open the DNS zone of the affected domain.
    3. Search the TXT entry which starts with “v=spf1”.
    4. Now add the SPF entry with the values from the external provider, e.g.
      OLD: v=spf1 include:spf.firestorm.ch -all
      NEW: v=spf1 include:spf.firestorm.ch include:spf.third-party.com -all
Important: Do not remove the entry spf.firestorm.ch
    5. Then click on “Save changes” at the bottom left.
  2. Variant: Disable SPF
    1. If the provider does not provide SPF entries, you can disable SPF protection.
    2. Open the DNS zone of the affected domain.
    3. Search the TXT entry which starts with “v=spf1”.
    4. Remove this entry from the DNS zone.
    5. Then click on “Save changes” at the bottom left.

By adjusting the SPF entry you allow other providers to send email messages such as contact form with your domain name. If you need assistance, contact our support. We will gladly help you to make the right settings.
