Enable domain forwarding

To link a domain to a hosting package, log in to your admin interface at https://admin.firestorm.ch.

Then click on ‘Domains’ in the navigation.

You will now see a list of your domains. The overview already shows which domain is being forwarded.

To enable forwarding for the domain, click on the tool on the far right and select “Link to Hosting”.

You will now see a new page with a dropdown.

1. Check that you have selected the correct domain.
2. Enable the checkbox “301 Forwarding to”.
3. Enter your target domain.
4. Save the form.

Important: The target domain must be a different domain. If you forward a domain to itself (for example example.ch to www.example.ch, without www being hosted elsewhere), you create an endless loop. The browser then reports «Too many redirects», and no SSL certificate can be issued. If the domain is supposed to show its own website, link it to a package instead (see the section «Linking a domain to a package» below).

If everything worked, you should receive the following message:

For your website to appear under your domain, the domain must be assigned to the right package. Publishing the website or uploading the files is not enough: only the assignment tells the web server which content to show when the domain is called up.

How to check and change the assignment:

1. Log in to your customer centre at admin.firestorm.ch.
2. Click «Domains». The overview shows for each domain what it is currently linked to.
3. Click the tool icon next to the domain and select «Link to Hosting».
4. Select «Connect» and, under «Package», the package your website is on. If website and email are on different packages or with different providers, enable «Choose website and email separately» and select both individually.
5. Click «Next», check the summary and click «Save».

Important for SiteDesigner: If you have both a «SiteDesigner Start» package and a «SiteDesigner Start – Email» package, the domain must be assigned to the «SiteDesigner Start» package (without «Email»). If it is assigned to the email package, your website is published but not displayed on the internet. Your email addresses keep working unchanged after the switch.

After the change, the SSL certificate for your domain is created automatically. This takes a few minutes. If a certificate warning still appears during this time, reload the page after a few minutes.
