Where can I find the log files?

You can download the log files from the web server via FTP in the folder ‘logs’ and view them with a text editor or another log evaluation tool.

Any compressed archives must first be unpacked. WinRar, which you can get at www.winrar.de, is suitable for this.

Are IP addresses stored?

Yes, but only briefly in full. The access logs of your website are rotated every night. In the process we automatically shorten the visitors’ IP addresses: for IPv4 the last part is removed, for IPv6 the rear part of the address. The full IP address is therefore only in the current day’s log, for around 24 hours at most.

This applies to all websites on our Linux hosting servers. You do not have to set anything up. You can state this in your privacy policy.

The access logs cannot be switched off completely, as we need them for troubleshooting and for fending off attacks. How long the rotated logs are kept is up to you: you set it in your hosting administration (Plesk) under «Logs» in the log rotation settings.
