Unlock foreign access

For security reasons, SSH, RDP, MSSQL and PostgreSQL on your root server or vServer are blocked by default for access from outside Western Europe. If you still need access from abroad, for example while on holiday, on a business trip or for a service that runs in another country, you can unlock your server yourself.

Where to find the unlock option for a root server

• Log in to the client area
• Open your root server package
• Open “Firewall Options”
• In the “Access from Abroad” section, click “Unlock foreign access”

Where to find the unlock option for a vServer

• Log in to the vServerPanel
• Open your server
• Switch to the “Firewall” tab
• In the “Access from abroad” section, click “Unlock access from abroad”

Good to know

• The unlock applies to the whole server, not just a specific application.
• It stays active until you lock it again yourself. To do so, click the block option in the same place.
• While active, your server is reachable worldwide for SSH, RDP, MSSQL and PostgreSQL, not only from the country you happen to be in. Turn it off again once you no longer need it.
• The block sits in our network in front of your server. It is independent of the firewall on your server itself (for example ufw or the firewall rules in the vServerPanel). The port you need must also be open there.

Frequently asked questions

• I don’t see the unlock option. For root servers, it only appears on packages with their own IP address. For vServers, it appears as soon as the server is set up and has an IP address. Otherwise, please open a ticket.
• My AI tool (for example Cursor) or another online service can’t connect to my server via SSH, but I can. Such services often run in the USA or other countries outside Western Europe. Unlock access from abroad for your server, and the connection will work.
• What does this cost? Nothing, it’s included with your root server and vServer.
• Can I unlock just one country? No, the unlock applies worldwide to the whole server.
