Which domain endings are supported?

The DNS service supports all available domain extensions.

 

Which DNS servers do I have to deposit with the domain?

The DNS servers are as follows:

  • dns11.firestorm.ch [188.40.219.50, 2a01:4f8:d0:6600::32]
  • dns12.firestorm-isp.com [188.40.216.50, 2a01:4f8:d0:6700::32]
  • dns13.firestorm-isp.com [46.140.230.170, 2a01:4f8:d0:6700:ff::32]
  • dns14.firestorm.ch [188.40.220.180, 2a01:4f8:d0:6500::b4]

 

What is the difference between a domain and a subdomain?

For example, a domain is musterdomain.ch. A subdomain is anything before your domain like for example www.musterdomain.ch or shop.musterdomain.ch

 

What is the difference between a DNS entry and a zone?

A zone corresponds to the name of a domain. A DNS entry is an entry in this zone such as an A, CNAME or MX entry which is usually an IP address or a subdomain name.

 

Are the DNS servers in different data centers?

To increase reliability, the DNS servers are redundant and located in different data centers.

 

How long does it take to update a DNS record?

The DNS entries are immediately accepted and published. However, it can take up to 24 hours until the entries are distributed worldwide.

 

Can A and CNAME entries be mixed?

No. An A and CNAME entry must not overlap.

 

Can a CNAME entry be registered for a toplevel domain?

No, no CNAME entry may be entered for a top-level domain (e.g. musterdomain.ch). However, you can create CNAME entries for a subdomain such as www.musterdomain.ch

 

How many zone entries can be created?

This depends on your package. Basically you can add a limited number of domains. The number of DNS entries per domain is limited to 1000 entries.
