Unlock foreign access for databases

For security reasons, access to MSSQL databases from outside Western Europe is blocked by default. If you still need access from abroad, for example to work with SQL Server Management Studio, you can unlock your own IP address for a limited time.

Where to find the unlock option

• Log in to the client area
• Open your hosting package
• Switch to “Databases”
• At the very bottom you’ll find the “Access from Abroad” section

Your current IP address is usually already filled in. Choose the duration (4 hours, 24 hours or 7 days) and click “Unlock”.

Good to know

• You can unlock several IP addresses at the same time, for example for your office and your home office.
• Each unlock expires automatically after the chosen duration, you don’t need to remove it yourself.
• To remove an unlock early, click “Lock now” next to the corresponding IP address.
• Only single IP addresses can be unlocked, not network ranges.

• I don’t know my IP address. It’s detected and filled in automatically when you open the page, provided it’s an IPv4 address. If not, search the web for “what is my IP address”.
• How long can I unlock for? Between 4 hours and 7 days.
• What does this cost? Nothing, it’s included with your hosting package.
• Does this also apply to other services like FTP or email? No, the unlock applies exclusively to MSSQL databases. Other services are not affected.
