FireStorm Builder vs. Wix & Jimdo

Many people wonder whether to use a ready-made website builder like Wix or Jimdo, or the website builder already included in every FireStorm hosting package (Sitejet Builder in Plesk). At first glance the offerings look similar: pick a template, drag elements around, done. Look closer, though, and there are clear differences, especially for customers who need their website to run in Switzerland.

Included in your hosting, no extra cost per domain

The FireStorm Builder is included in every hosting package and can be used for every domain and subdomain in your package at no extra charge. If you run several websites in one package, each one gets its own Builder site, without paying extra for it.

Wix and Jimdo work differently: one plan covers exactly one website. If you want to run a second, independent site, for example for another project or a subdomain with its own content, you need a completely new, separately paid plan. Additional domains in the same account can only be set up as a redirect to the main site there, not as an independent website with its own content.

Cost overview (as of 15.09.2026)

Comparing prices between website builders isn’t entirely straightforward, since Wix and Jimdo work with many pricing tiers and prices change regularly. As a rough guide, as of 15.09.2026:

Wix charges roughly CHF 12 to 17 per month for its cheapest plan with your own domain and no ads (Light), billed annually. Online payments aren’t possible on that plan, for that you need the next tier up, Core, from around CHF 28 to 36 per month. The domain itself is only included in the first year, after that it costs roughly CHF 10 to 20 per year.

Jimdo’s cheapest paid plan (Start) begins at around 9 euros per month billed annually, also with the domain included in the first year, after that around 20 euros per year extra.

The FireStorm Builder, on the other hand, costs you nothing extra: it’s included in every FireStorm hosting package, which you need anyway for your domain, email and website. You’ll find current prices for FireStorm hosting packages on our pricing page.

Company headquarters: Switzerland instead of Israel or Germany

FireStorm is a Swiss company. Wix, on the other hand, is an Israeli company headquartered in Tel Aviv, something many customers don’t realise when they want to build a website for the Swiss market. Jimdo is headquartered in Hamburg and is therefore a German company. That means with both Wix and Jimdo, you sign your contract with a foreign company, and your contract partner is not subject to Swiss law.

Server location: where your website actually runs

The website you build with the FireStorm Builder sits directly on your FireStorm hosting package, on our own servers in Switzerland.

With Wix, your website runs on the provider’s infrastructure abroad. According to Wix’s own statements (Trust Center), visitor data may be processed in data centres in Israel, the USA and Ireland, among others (as well as South Korea and Taiwan). With Jimdo, European websites are, according to the company, hosted primarily in data centres in Germany, so your data stays within the EU, but still outside Switzerland.

Built into your web hosting

The FireStorm Builder isn’t a bolted-on extra tool, it’s a fixed part of your web hosting. You don’t need to change nameservers, set up a subdomain with a foreign provider, or connect a separate app, your website is created directly inside your existing Plesk hosting package.

That brings real advantages: the same SSL encryption that Plesk manages for your domain automatically applies to your Builder website too. You can run one domain with the Builder and, in the same hosting package, run another domain or subdomain classically with WordPress, with no conflicts. And the storage your Builder website uses simply counts towards your hosting package’s webspace, there’s no separately limited storage like with Wix or Jimdo.

With Wix and Jimdo, it works the other way round: to point your domain at their platform, you either have to transfer the domain there or at least change nameservers or DNS records to the respective provider. That usually affects your email setup (MX records) too, which needs to be configured separately and correctly so email keeps arriving.

Your own files, FTP access and daily backups

Because your Builder website at FireStorm is a completely normal part of your hosting package, you can access the files at any time via FTP or the Plesk File Manager and download your own backup. On top of that, FireStorm automatically backs up your entire hosting package, including your Builder website, every day.

Wix and Jimdo don’t offer this kind of direct file access. Both are closed platforms without FTP, your website only exists inside the respective provider’s account. Neither Wix nor Jimdo offers an official, complete export of your site to another provider for their standard website plans. If you cancel your contract there, or it expires, your website is gone, and there is normally no backup of your own that you could restore elsewhere.

No ad banner, your own domain from day one

The FireStorm Builder runs on your own domain from day one and doesn’t display advertising for FireStorm or any third party, because it’s part of your paid hosting package.

The free entry-level plans from Wix and Jimdo, by contrast, only work with a foreign subdomain (for example yourname.wixsite.com or yourname.jimdosite.com) and display a non-removable ad banner from the respective provider. An ad-free, own domain is only available from a paid premium plan upward.

Email mailboxes included

FireStorm hosting packages include email mailboxes for your domain from the start, in the same customer account as your website and Builder.

Wix doesn’t offer its own email mailboxes at all, for an address like info@yourdomain.ch you need to book Google Workspace separately, at extra cost. Jimdo only offers real mailboxes with webmail, IMAP and POP3 from certain, more expensive Creator plans onward, the cheaper website plans only include email forwarding.

Choice of templates and designs

All three providers offer plenty of ready-made templates. For the vast majority of websites, a company presence, a portfolio, a small shop, the selection at FireStorm, Wix and Jimdo is equally sufficient.

Basic SEO features

The providers differ less in what’s fundamentally possible than in which plan you need it on. In the FireStorm Builder, you can edit page titles, meta description and keywords directly in the global SEO settings, plus SEO-friendly URLs, regardless of which hosting package you’ve booked, since the Builder is already included. Wix also offers comprehensive SEO tools, including a guided SEO checklist (SEO Wiz) and per-page editable meta tags. With Jimdo, page titles, meta descriptions, image alt texts and custom URLs can only be edited from the Start or Pro plan onward, further features such as 301 redirects or excluding individual pages from search engine indexing are only available on higher plans, and a dedicated SEO tool (RankingCoach) is reserved for the most expensive Platinum plan.

Multilingual websites

The FireStorm Builder supports multilingual websites directly in the CMS: you activate additional languages and automatically get SEO-friendly, language-specific URLs, at no extra cost and no extra plan. Wix offers a powerful translation feature via its Wix Multilingual app, for over 180 languages including automatic translation, but only with a limited starting credit of 3,000 words, after which you need to buy additional translation packages. Jimdo has no native multilingual feature at all, multilingual content can only be achieved as a workaround via separate pages linked by hand in the navigation.

Automatic updates with Plesk

The FireStorm Builder is part of Plesk and is kept up to date automatically along with the regular Plesk updates. You don’t need to worry about anything or update anything separately.

One login for everything

You don’t need an extra account for the FireStorm Builder, you log in with your existing Plesk access, the same one you use to manage your domain, email and the rest of your hosting. With Wix and Jimdo, you need your own, completely separate account with the respective provider, regardless of where your domain or email is otherwise managed.

Swiss support

For questions about the FireStorm Builder, you contact the same Swiss support team as for domain, hosting and email, by phone or ticket, in German, French or Italian.

Wix’s support runs via a chatbot and a callback service, there’s no direct phone support, callbacks are offered in around 12 languages with varying availability windows, free users are limited to the help centre and chatbot, and paying customers get priority handling of their requests. Jimdo does offer German-language support from Hamburg by email and chat, but it only covers the Jimdo builder itself and is separate from your actual hosting, domain or email provider, if those are somewhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take over my existing online shop from Wix or Jimdo?
You can’t directly import an existing Wix or Jimdo shop, since neither provider offers a complete export. For an online shop in the FireStorm Builder, though, Sitejet Commerce is available: a directly integrated shop with cart, checkout and product pages for an unlimited number of products, physical or digital, including subscriptions and gift cards, with no separate extra plan like with Wix or Jimdo.

Do I need to move my domain to FireStorm to use the Builder?
Your domain needs to be part of your FireStorm hosting package, either registered with us or managed with our nameservers. If that’s already the case, you don’t need to change anything for the Builder, unlike Wix or Jimdo, where you need to change nameservers or DNS records for that.

What happens to my website if I cancel my hosting package?
As with any other hosting content: once the notice period ends, the package including the website is deleted. Since the files sit as completely normal files in your webspace, you can back them up beforehand at any time via FTP or File Manager. The published HTML files will then also work on another web server, but only as a static copy, you can’t keep editing that copy in the Sitejet editor there.

Is there a separate minimum contract term for the Builder?
No, the Builder is part of your hosting package and follows its contract term and notice period. There’s no separate subscription with its own term, unlike the premium plans from Wix or Jimdo.
