Set up email alias

Set up email alias

  1. Log in to the web administration
  2. Open your package and log into Plesk.
  3. Then open e-mail (1)

  4. Now click on Create e-mail address (2)
  5. Now fill out the displayed general form. Enter your email address (3) and password (4) and then click on email aliase (5)
  6. Now add your alias to the list.
  7. Now click OK and your alias account is set up on the server. Follow the email instructions to set up your account in Outlook, Mac Mail, Thunderbird and more. Use the email address and password of the mailbox from step 5, not the alias.

What an alias is and what it is not

An alias is an additional address for an existing mailbox. Emails to the alias arrive in the inbox of that mailbox. An alias has no password and no inbox of its own. This means:
  • An alias does not appear as a separate mailbox, neither in the customer centre nor in Plesk. You will find it in Plesk when you open the corresponding mailbox under «Mail», in the «Email Aliases» tab.
  • You cannot log in to webmail or an email program with an alias. Always log in with the address and password of the mailbox.
  • If you create a new mailbox, emails sent to an alias of another mailbox will not arrive there. If you want an alias to land in a different mailbox in future, remove it from the previous mailbox and add it to the new mailbox under «Email Aliases».
If you need a separate inbox with its own login for an address, set it up as a separate mailbox instead of an alias.
