Booting from Hard Disk…

Proxmox system does not boot

When migrating a Hyper-V generation 2 machine to Proxmox, the Linux system does not boot. Only ‘Booting from Hard Disk’ appears and then it hangs.

1. Switch the Proxmox boot mode to UEFI
2. Add a UEFI disk
3. Start Proxmox, the UEFI boot loader now appears
4. FS0:
   This switches the shell to the new drive
5. cd EFI/ubuntu
   This changes to the folder for Ubuntu. For Debian etc. adjust accordingly
6. grubx64.efi
   The server now boots normally
7. grub-update
   This updates the boot loader and the UEFI disk is now populated. Booting should now work normally again, otherwise run the following: grub install /dev/sda
