Sometimes a clean start is the fastest route: a configuration has broken something, a test setup should disappear without a trace, or the server takes on a new role. Until now this meant contacting support. From now on you can reset your root server yourself in the customer centre.

What a reset does

Your server is returned to exactly the state it was delivered in when you ordered it, with the same operating system image you chose back then. Everything added since is deleted.

Your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, the PTR records, the hostname and the login details in the customer centre all stay as they are. So there is no need to touch DNS or monitoring: after a few minutes the server is reachable again at the same address.

Done in two clicks

Log in to the customer centre and open your root server under Services. In the action bar next to Start, Reboot and Console you will find the new tile Reset server. A confirmation prompt follows, which you confirm by typing WIPE, everything after that runs automatically. The progress is shown right on the page, and the server is usually back after 5 to 15 minutes.

Back up first

A reset deletes all data irreversibly, snapshots included. There is no way to restore it. So please back up anything you want to keep beforehand.
