What is DANE anyway?<\/h2>\n

DANE stands for DNS-based Authentication of Named Entities and is a network protocol that significantly improves the security of data traffic. It extends the existing SSL\/TLS encryption and prevents the certificates used from being exchanged unnoticed. This makes the encrypted transport of e-mails and access to websites even more secure.<\/p>\n

DANE links X.509 certificates with DNS records and secures them with the help of DNSSEC (DNS Security Extensions). DNSSEC ensures that DNS responses are authentic and unaltered, preventing DNS spoofing. It is particularly noteworthy that domain owners can use DANE to issue their own certificates without having to rely on external certification authorities.<\/p>\n

DNSSEC as the basis for DANE<\/h2>\n

As we have also explained in our knowledge database on DNSSEC<\/a>, DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) is an extension of the DNS. DNSSEC therefore forms the basis for DANE. DNSSEC ensures that DNS responses are authentic and unchanged, which increases the security of all DNS queries. This extension is automatically activated in FireStorm for all domains and therefore offers additional protection against DNS spoofing.<\/p>\n

DNSSEC checks the authenticity and integrity of the data transmitted in the DNS response. This ensures that no falsified DNS responses go unnoticed. For you as a FireStorm customer, this means more security without additional effort.<\/p>\n
